Study Suggests Strength Training With Insoles Is More Effective In Treating Plantar Fasciitis

by MASS4D® Insoles May 02, 2018

Abstract

If you have plantar fasciitis, you must be familiar with the type of foot pain caused by this condition. With many treatment options available, you may be wondering which one seems more promising in providing you relief from foot pain.

Research coming out of Denmark suggests a new approach to treating plantar fasciitis – high-load strength training to build up strength in your plantar fascia ligament.

The study, headed by Michael Rathleff of Aalborg University Hospital, divided forty-eight patients with the condition to test the effectiveness of two forms of treatment.

The first one consisted of shoe inserts with stretching exercises, and the second was a combination of shoe inserts and high-load strength training.

Patients who practiced strength training every other day were found to have quicker improvement in their plantar fasciitis symptoms. This training consisted of one-legged heel raises on a stair, with a towel placed under the toes.

An advantage of including strength training in rehab programmes is the increase in ability of the plantar fascia to handle bigger loads. This helps in preventing the ligament from future injury due to overloading.
