Study: Your Gender Can Influence The Height Of Your Foot Arch

by MASS4D® Insoles July 18, 2018

MASS4D® Medical Review

There are various physical differences that exist between men and women which can ultimately have an effect on the foot structure as well.

A study was conducted by researchers in Japan to better understand the impact of these differences on the feet particularly in the height of the foot arch.

The researchers recruited 36 healthy adults and examined factors such as height, bodyweight, foot length, muscle strength, toe-gripping strength, etc.

They also analysed the effect of these factors on the height of the foot arch.

The findings of the study revealed that arch height of both men and women is directly related to the strength of the tibialis posterior muscle located in the back of the leg.

This muscle plays a vital role in supporting the foot arch and helps in stabilising the lower leg during movement.

As a result, problem in the functioning of this leg muscle is often reported as the most common cause of flat feet in adults.

Similarly, arch height is also related to the toe-gripping strength of females as compared to males.

Structural differences lead to weaker support of foot ligaments to the foot arch of females; in order to make up for this lack of support, the toe muscles are involved in contributing to the height of the arch.

Arch height in females was found to be most likely influenced by the distance between the big toe and the bone located directly behind it.

MASS4D® Insoles reduce differences in foot arch height by supporting the feet and regulating unhealthy movement patterns. This ensures that the foot arch is raised to a normal level at all times during movement.

This helps in promoting optimal functioning of the arch which protects your feet from developing conditions such as plantar fasciitis and bunions.
